Grooming Report

Mon Feb 17, 2014 -6 PM

Well we finally reached the end of the line for Vallecito for this year. The snow, or lack thereof, is beyond repair. Even if we get a dump of snow in the next two weeks (none forecast), with the base gone, it wouldn’t last long given the time of year.  Our groomers are in the process of removing grooming equipment. We did have a few obstacles to contend with this year, including higher than normal lake levels, which flooded our beach trails, a lack of snow, and warm temps. Even with these obstacles the skiing was amazing for a long time largely due to consistently good grooming and some serious shoveling. Thanks to everyone who helps to create such a fantastic winter playground.  See you next year!

Grooming Report

Mon Feb 17, 2014 -8 AM

The Archery Biathalon was a great success yesterday with about 20-30 people turning out. With a lack of snow, it’s good to see people thinking outside the box.  With these temperatures, the snow is melting fast. Large bare spots have emerged and the road is not skiable beyond Pine Point and East Creek is also closed. Sections of the road remain skiable and the groomers put in another huge effort this weekend to keep melting spots covered. Stay tuned for updates on grooming status.

Grooming Report

Fri Feb 14, 2014 -9PM

Another week of thaw!! It is too warm to groom but our groomers have gone to great lengths, even hauling snow in a sled and shoveling, to keep the main road open to Pine Pt campground turnoff. Beyond this point, the road is not skiable and is closed. East Creek is also closed. The road up to EC remains skiable and is good in spots. What else can we say, except that our skiers have become more adventurous and accustomed to navigating obstacles during this challenging year. The archery biathlon is on and will happen at 10 Am on Sunday morning on the FS Road about a mile to mile and half toward Brad’s from the trailhead… Should be fun… come on out.

Grooming Report

Wed Feb 12, 2014 -9PM

Welcome to winter thaw!! Our groomers hit the trails this morning and planed off the deep tracks from the previous day. Skiing is solid and hard up til noon and then it gets mushy. Thin spots are reappearing. The classic tracks are melted out to the dirt in a few places. 10 AM til noon seems like a good time to ski.

Grooming Report

Mon Feb 10, 2014—1 PM

Vallecito received another 1” of snow last night. The skating lanes are now flat and smooth after today’s grooming. New classic tracks were reset today on the FS road. We think Vallecito might have broken a record for canine visitors this last weekend. According to one of our groomers, “we think dogs have learned to drive themselves to the trailhead”. Woof! Let’s hope our base holds up for all users with a forecast of warming temps and storms tracking to our north.
